For the next 18 months the two of us, Eli and Katy, and our two mutts, Colby and Barlow, will travel the United States three months at a time. Katy, who graduated in December with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Elon University, is doing travel therapy and will do 13 week rotations at different locations around the country. We're going to try and use this opportunity to experience as much as we can, and then share our adventures with our friends and family.

Cheyenne

This past week we had gorgeous weather with highs in the 70s most days. On Tuesday, March 27th, we took  advantage of the sunshine and did some hiking in Boulder...all of about 5 minutes from our house! Now that it is warming up outside this city is becoming more and more attractive to live in!

That weekend Katy and I spent the last day in March driving up to Cheyenne, Wyoming. I had been there 11 years earlier to spend the day enjoying Cheyenne's main attraction, the Cheyenne Frontier Days, a 10 day event which is the world's largest outdoor rodeo and nicknamed the "Big Daddy of em all". The area where the rodeo is held also houses Cheyenne's Old West Museum, which was mine and Katy's first stop in the city. It was an interesting museum and did a good job representing the history of the city and the rodeo, which was started in 1897, just 30 years after the city was founded, in 1867.

After leaving the Old West Museum we headed into the downtown area and walked around with the dogs. We went to the state capital, to the Wrangler, which is a western wear store that has been around in some form or another since 1892. We also went to the historic Union Pacific Railroad Depot, which was built in 1886 and was claimed by Cheyenne's residents to be the most beautiful train depot in the country. From the depot you have a clear view straight up Capital Avenue to the State Capital. This was done on purpose so that the state legislators would constantly see the depot from their offices and be reminded of how important the railroad was to the city.
At the Depot
After spending about four hours exploring Cheyenne we decided we had seen pretty much all of the city. It is in fact a very small state capital with only 60,000 residents. It has the feel of a small town and definitely embraces their western/cowboy heritage. We enjoyed the trip and being able to experience another city together. Cheyenne is only 90 miles from Boulder and so were back home in time to go to Chez Thuy, a Vietnamese restaurant we had been wanting to try. The food was very good and the curry, which people rant and rave about, was excellent.

On Sunday we took the dogs running through the city (Boulder has over 200 miles worth or biking and walking trails) and then celebrated the beginning of April and the gorgeous spring weather with having Aunt Cyndi and our friends George and Lynne over for dinner. It was a nice weekend and fun to get out and explore the area a little more.

On a side note, Sunday saw the temperature hit a high of 82, and then Monday night into Tuesday we had weather in the 20s and low 30s with snow! Crazy weather here in Denver! Now we've seen snow in October back in Virginia and snow in April in Colorado!
